Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s volleyball team fell 3-2 (15-19, 18-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-10) to visiting York (Pa.) in Capital Athletic Conference action on Tuesday night. The Saints drop to 3-9 overall and 0-3 in league play.
Johanna Hummel led MU and all players with 12 kills while Emily Shultis and Erin Allison both added 11. Jenn Forbes chipped in nine in the spread out attack while Melissa Warren paced the offense with a match-high 42 assists.
Defensively, Michelle McCormick led MU with 15 digs while Allison posted a double-double with 11 digs and Brianne Fitzpatrick chipped in 11 as well.
Marymount battled back from an opening set loss to win the next two and take a 2-1 lead before York (7-6, 2-1 CAC) forced a deciding fifth. The Saints outhit the Spartans in three of the four opening frames.
In the fifth set, a back-and-forth affair turned in the Spartans favor as Marymount was whistled for serving out of rotation to make it a 10-7 lead for YCP instead of a 9-8 ballgame. The Saints wouldn’t recover as York held on for the win.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday in non-conference action at Washington (Md.).
