Women’s Soccer Sinks Penn State Harrisburg
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s soccer team defeated Penn State Harrisburg 2-0 Friday evening, battling a steady downpour for the duration of the contest. With the victory, the Saints improve to 5-7 on the year and 2-2 in CAC action.
With two strikes in the opening half, Marymount would need no further insurance.
Jillian Goldstein unleashed a long ball through the rain, finding the back of the net in the 20th minute off a corner-kick skirmish. Just over ten minutes later, Chloe McAuliffe used a lengthy set-up ball from Mallory Johnson to tally the Saints’ second and final goal in the 31st minute.
After a lightning delay halted the battle late in the opening frame, Marymount continued to pressure throughout the second half. The Saints out-shot the Lions 10-4 in the closing half and 21-6 overall.
Marymount goalkeeper April Westmark earned the shutout, collecting three saves in the victory. The rookie netminder improves her record to 4-2 on the season with Friday’s win.
Marymount returns to action on Tuesday, October 15, as it travels to CAC rival Mary Washington. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
