Men’s Basketball Releases 2012-13 Schedule

Monday, October 01, 2012
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s basketball team released its 2012-13 schedule, as announced by head coach Chris Rogers on Monday. The Saints play a heavy slate against area non-conference foes a season before the Capital Athletic Conference expands from seven to 10 teams.

“This year’s non-conference schedule is expanded because of the transition in our conference membership,” Rogers said, “and it gave us some flexibility that we don’t normally have. I think it will be very challenging but it will prepare us for league play.”

Before Marymount opens the season, the Saints will battle Division I foe Navy in an exhibition game on November 9th in Annapolis. The Midshipmen are coached by Ed DeChellis, one of Rogers’s former coaches at Penn State, and is assisted by Dan Earl, a former teammate of Rogers with the Nittany Lions.

Tipping off the campaign at the 22nd Annual McCarthy Tire Laurel Line Tournament, the Saints go up against Marywood in the opener on September 16th and face either Baptist Bible or the hosts Misericordia in the championship a day later.

Marymount opens its home slate against Shenandoah on November 28th and begins Capital Athletic Conference play that weekend on the road at Wesley on December 1st. The Blue and White also hosts future CAC foe Penn State Harrisburg to the Verizon Sports Arena on December 4th and Coast Guard on December 16th.

The Saints take on five Old Dominion Athletic Conference teams, including Eastern Mennonite, Shenandoah, Roanoke, Washington & Lee and Lynchburg. Both contests against Roanoke and W&L will be played in Florida at the Daytona Beach Shootout on December 19th and 21st, respectively.

Turning the calendar over, the Saints open the New Year at the Johns Hopkins Blue Jay Invitational. Marymount battles Susquehanna on January 2nd before facing either Eastern or host JHU in the championship game.

The meat of the CAC schedule is home heavy for the Saints in January with five of its remaining nine league games coming in the month. Mary Washington, Frostburg State, Salisbury, Wesley and York (Pa.) all visit Arlington in January while St. Mary’s (Md.) is the only regular season home game for MU in February.

Marymount returns 11 players from last season including their top-three scorers and top rebounder from a year ago.
