Men’s Lacrosse Tops Visiting Ferrum
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s lacrosse team improved to 5-1 at the friendly confines of Long Bridge Park with an 11-7 victory over visiting Ferrum on Wednesday evening. The Saints move to 6-3 on the season, their most wins since the 2008 season.
Ian Gordon led the Saints with four goals while Connor Kellogg and Nico Burns each added two. Jack Burke, Vince Lodato and Jimmy Wendell each scored lone goals as well for the Blue and White.
Kellogg added a career-high four assists on the day with Lance Bernecker, Burke and Gordon each chipping in another.
Ferrum (8-7) scored the opening goal at the 10:42 mark but saw the Saints close out the first quarter on a 4-1 run to take a 4-2 lead. Marymount added a pair of goals in the second before the Panthers rallied with back-to-back goals in the final minute of the half to pull within 6-4 going into the break.
Coming out of halftime, Ferrum scored first again to pull within one but the Saints took over from there. Burke scored the first of three unanswered goals in a 2:43 span to give MU a 9-5 lead after three.
In the fourth, the Panthers were held scoreless for nearly 10 minutes before scoring at the 5:03 mark to make it a 9-6 game. Back-to-back goals from Burns and Gordon then put the game out of reach for FC and sealed the game for the Saints.
At the middle ‘X’, Marymount won 15-of-21 faceoffs including 13-of-17 from Gordon. He added six ground balls for the Saints.
Michael Bitonti led all players with nine ground balls while Kellogg and Max Rowse both had four.
In goal, Derek DiGiovanni (6-3) hauled in 18 saves in the win.
Nick Smith and Tyler Muckle led Ferrum with two goals each.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday as it travels to face York (Pa.) in Capital Athletic Conference play.
