Once again, Library and Learning Services is hosting a display of Christmas nativity scenes from the collection of James and the late Emilia Govan. The exhibit, which will be displayed in the Barry Art Gallery, includes crèches from the United States, as well as such diverse countries as Peru, Haiti, Madagascar, Thailand, and Ireland.
During their many years of travel, Mr. Govan and his late wife Emilia collected over 400 crèches from more than 100 countries. Mr. Govan is a member of St. Ann’s parish in Arlington, as well as co-founder, former president, and current board member of “Friends of Crèche”, a national society devoted to the tradition of the crèche. He is also the author of the 2007 book, Art of the Crèche: Nativities from Around the World.
