Baltimore, Md. – Marymount University’s volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches on Friday at Goucher College. The Saints topped the host Gophers 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 25-20) before falling to Capital Athletic Conference foe Stevenson 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-22) in non-league action.
Michelle McCormick paced the Saints in the opener with a double-double, tallying 13 kills to go with 18 digs. Chelsea Gates added 21 digs.
An injury early in the first set forced Marymount setter Melissa Warren to the sidelines but Brianne Fitzpatrick stepped up and didn’t miss a beat. She filled in with eight assists in the frame while Chelsea Connestro added nine digs after the Saints rearranged their rotation
With Warren returning the next stanza, MU went on to win two of the next three sets and avenge and earlier season 3-1 loss to Goucher.
In the nightcap, the Saints dropped their second 3-0 match to the Mustangs this season.
