Cross Country Continues to Impress
York, Pa. – Marymount University’s cross country teams continued to turn heads after another impressive performance at the Coach Achtzehn Classic on Saturday. The Saints finished third of 11 teams on the women’s side while placing 11th of 12 teams in a tight grouping on the men’s side.
The Saints third place finish was the best finish in program history, the second-straight time they’ve achieved the feat this season.
Three of Marymount’s runners on the women’s side posted top-10 finishes in the event. Only one other program, eventual winner Goucher, had even two.
Freshman Melissa Teeple was second overall with a time of 24:06.10, less than 10 seconds off of the top finishing time in the 6K race. She was followed by Elizabeth Long in sixth at 24:58.66 and Payton Bodecker ninth at 25:28.93.
Also solid was Sarah Costonas with a time of 26:26.75 to finish 25th while Jessica Butler and Katie Maloney finished 53rd and 64th, respectively.
On the men’s side, Carlos Elizondo placed 23rd overall with a time of 28:04.49 in the 8K event. Kevin Farmer was 71st, followed by Matt Ward, Lavelle Perry and Joseph Kenny.
Marymount returns to action on October 12 at the Christopher Newport Invitational in Newport News, Va.
