Women’s Basketball Fourth in NCAA Regional Rankings
Atlanta, Ga. – Marymount University’s women’s basketball team has been ranked fourth in the first NCAA Division III Regional Rankings, as announced on Thursday. The Saints are the highest Capital Athletic Conference program in the Atlantic region rankings.
Montclair State tops the rankings with a perfect 22-0 record followed by Catholic and Baruch, both of whom have just one loss on the season. The Saints are fourth with a 19-4 record, including 17-4 in-region, with both William Patterson and CAC rival Mary Washington coming in fifth and sixth, respectively, with six losses each. CAC foe in York (Pa.) and The College of New Jersey round out the list.
One of the top defensive teams in the nation, Marymount is 13th overall in Division III in scoring defense, holding its opponents to a paltry 47.6 points per game. The Saints are also 26th nationally in defending the three-pointer, holding foes to just 23.7 percent from beyond the arc. Marymount is also 44th in steals per game with 12.6 an outing while three Saints are ranked nationally in that category.
The Saints have won eight-straight games and 15 of their last 16 contests. Marymount has only lost back-to-back games once this season and has gone 18-2 overall since that setback.
Marymount returns to the hardwood on Saturday as it looks to clinch the top seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament.
