Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s basketball team fell to visiting St. Mary’s (Md.) 67-58 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Saints drop to 5-16 overall and 1-11 in league play.
Three Saints scored in double-figures with John Magnani, Garrett Snoops and Andrew Somuah each contributing 11 points. Magnani added eight rebounds, Reed Scott had six and Somuah chimed in with five.
A slow paced beginning to the opening half worked in MU’s favor en route to an 8-1 lead over the first five minutes of play. St. Mary’s (16-6, 10-3 CAC) would respond to take its first lead three minutes later but couldn’t create much breathing room before taking a 28-25 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the locker room the Seahawks kept Marymount at bay, eventually pushing their lead to eight with 10 minutes to play. A 7-0 run by the Saints pulled them within one at 44-43 with 7:44 remaining but SMC battled back to take double-figure lead with 4:32 to play.
The Saints made it a two possession game with three minutes to play behind a Snoops trifecta but St. Mary’s held off the comeback and closed out the game on the free throw line.
Devin Spencer led the Seahawks with 16 points while Christian MacAuley and Mike Fitzpatrick each added 10.
