DC Summer Institutes for High School Students

How to Apply

Select the type of program you wish to apply for to view its application instructions.  All applicants MUST speak with a CGE staff member before applying to any of the following programs.

Semester Programs

The following instructions pertain to the process for applying to a spring, summer, and/or fall semester-long program. Students MUST have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and be in good academic standing in order to be considered for semester-long study. Please note that some programs may require a higher GPA of their applicants.

How to Apply:
A two part application process is required. Turn in all forms to the MU Center for Global Education by the following deadlines:

  • October 1 – spring semester study abroad
  • February 1 – summer semester study abroad
  • March 1 – fall semester study abroad

Turn in the following items:


Part 2: Host Program Application
Refer to the specific program website and contact the Center for Global Education for specific steps and deadlines.

NOTE: submission of the online CGE application form does not guarantee acceptance into the program, nor does it lead to automatic registration. You will receive an email within two weeks of submitting an online application if you have been accepted into the program.

Short-Term Summer Programs

The following instructions pertain to the process for applying to a MU Faculty-led Short-term Summer Program.

How to Apply:
Student applications are submitted online and accepted on a rolling basis. Students must be in good academic standing in order for their application to be considered.

The link to the online application form for MU Faculty-led Short-term Summer Programs will be available in the fall, so please check back once the semester has started. For application requirements for your program, please visit the specific program webpage. The application deadline for all 2015 MU Faculty-led Short-term Summer Programs is December 5th, 2014 at 5:00pm.

NOTE: submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance into the program, nor does it lead to automatic course registration. You will receive an email within two weeks of submitting an online application if you have been accepted into the program, after which point you will be registered for the course.

Global Classroom Series Programs

The following instructions pertain to the process for applying to a Global Classroom Series Program.

Student applications are submitted online and accepted on a rolling basis; programs will close as soon as they reach capacity. Students MUST be in good academic standing in order for their application to be considered.

Starting exactly at 10:00am the morning of Wednesday, September 10th, 2014, students will be able to apply for the Spring 2015 Global Classroom Series Programs.  The link to the application will be found HERE as well as on our Facebook Page and the Global Classroom Series Program Page. For the application requirements of each program and to see any necessary prerequisites, please visit the specific program webpage.

APPLYING FOR MORE THAN ONE PROGRAM: Students will be able to indicate a first, second, and third choice preference for the Global Classroom Series Programs once the application is made available.

Internship Programs

The following instructions pertain to the process for applying to an Internship Program abroad. Students MUST have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and be in good academic standing in order to be considered for an internship abroad. Please note that some programs may require a higher GPA of their applicants.

How to Apply:

  • February 1 – summer semester internship abroad
  • March 1 – fall semester internship abroad

NOTE: submission of an online application form does not guarantee acceptance into the internship program, nor does it lead to automatic internship approval. You will receive an email within two weeks of submitting an online application if you have been accepted into the internship program.

International Service Programs

The following instructions pertain to the process for applying for an international service program.

How to Apply:
The Center for Global Education Connects assists students in selecting opportunities to provide service to others in an international context. International service programs provide short-term opportunities to currently enrolled students during the winter, spring and summer breaks.

For students interested in committing to a long-term, international service opportunity post-graduation, opportunities vary in length from 6 to 28 months.

While the Center for Global Education encourages graduating students to come see our staff for support in selecting an international service program for post-graduation that meets their needs and interests, a student's application to such a program does not require supervision from our office.

The following two part application process only applies to students completing an international service opportunity while they are enrolled as a student at Marymount. Application deadlines for programs vary significantly so please check with the international service program.

Graduate Student Programs

The following instructions pertain to the process for applying to a MU Faculty-Led Graduate Student Program. Students MUST be in good academic standing in order for their applications to be considered.

How to Apply:
The MU Faculty-led Graduate Students Programs are offered at various points throughout the academic year and applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

The link to the online application form for MU Faculty-led Short-term Summer Programs will be available shortly. For specific application requirements and deadlines for your program, please visit the unique program webpage.

You will receive an email within two weeks of submitting an online application if you have been accepted into the program, after which point you will be registered for the course.

Global Student Teaching

The following instructions pertain to the process for applying for a Global Student Teaching Placement.

How to Apply:
Interested students must contact the Department of Education & Human Services Coordinator of Education Clinical Experiences at least one year prior to their student teaching semester to express interest in the program. The list of application materials below must be submitted by the following deadlines:

  • October 1 – to complete global student teaching semester in the spring
  • February 1 – to complete global student teaching semester in the fall

Application Materials:

  • MU General Student Teaching Application
  • Country Specific Student Teaching Application
  • Student Teaching Abroad Program Specific Application
  • Center for Global Education Online Application (submitted through online application site)

Prorgram Requirements:

  • Pass Licensure examinations and required coursework
  • Complete Global Student Teaching Reflections and Presentation upon return

Program Expenses:

  • Program Fee
  • Roundtrip Airfare
  • Vaccinations & Medications (if applicable)
  • Visa & Passport (if applicable)
