Study Abroad - Opening minds to a world of opportunity

Money Matters

Urge your student to research additional financial aid opportunities. There are scholarships available. Due to possible higher costs overseas, examine your costs and contributions. Your student’s financial aid may be able to be adjusted. Consider budgeting now to finance your student’s overseas experience.

Also, talk to your student about saving for the trip. Often sitting down with a budget to examine all of the costs is helpful. Some of the costs to consider are tuition, room and board, books, fees, airfare, departure taxes, estimated ground transportation, and personal expenses.

Information about banking, transferring money from home and using credit cards while studying abroad can be found in Bill Hoffa's Study Abroad Handbook.
