Study Abroad - Opening minds to a world of opportunity

Cultural Adjustment

Encourage your student to read about the country before going.

Be aware that your student will experience accentuated highs and lows on a relatively short (semester or summer) program. Over an extended period, he or she should adjust to the culture, as it becomes more familiar. Be sensitive to these adjustments and realize that your child is growing and changing during the experience.

Upon return, try to understand some of those changes. Actively listen – there is so much to share. You both can learn about another culture through the experience.
