The John T. and Agnes J. Gomatos Reading Room, located on the second floor of the Reinsch Library houses a collection of old and rare books donated by Dr. Peter Gomatos in honor of his parents, John T. and Agnes J. Gomatos. The Gomatos Room is open for quiet study, but access to the collection is by appointment only. Call the Circulation Desk at the main library, 703-284-1533, to schedule an appointment.
Collection strengths include:
- 18th and 19th century English and American literature, primarily written by women authors
- Religious and theological works
- Early science
- Travel literature
- Social customs
- Legends and folklore
To locate materials in the collection, a search in the ALADIN Catalog
under the keyword "Gomatos" will list materials in one of the following locations:
Marymount Gomatos - non-circulating old and rare items housed in the Gomatos Reading Room. Limiting the search to "MU Special Collections" retrieves Reading Room items only.
WRLC Center (restricted use) - medium rare items that may only be used within the library. These materials may be requested by using the "Request through Consortium Loan Service" link in the Catalog.
Marymount Main Stacks - items added to the general collection. These materials may be checked out.
