SOC 202 Social Problems

Often, common myths and stereotypes are challenged by the findings of sociological research. This course helps students develop a sociological understanding of contemporary social problems in American society, such as poverty, crime and violence, gender and racial inequalities, or drug and alcohol abuse. Students will identify the characteristics of a societal problem, summarize the existing research and statistical data, and critically examine proposed solutions toward the goal of developing an informed opinion.
