Farah Traih ʼ12 of Amman, Jordan, met with Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan on January 11. Farah was part of a group of Jordanian students and graduates who had received scholarships, arranged through the queen’s office, to attend universities around the world. Queen Rania has worked tirelessly to increase educational opportunities for Jordanian young people.
Farah was the first recipient of the Marymount University Jordanian Scholarship, which covered all of her educational expenses. The scholarship was made possible by the generosity of Marymount Trustee Marlene A. Malek ’79 and her husband, Frederic V. Malek.
At Marymount, Farah earned both a B.S. in Biology and a B.S. in Mathematics, with honors.
Of her meeting with the queen, Farah wrote to her friends at Marymount, “It was an honor and a great opportunity. We got a chance to show our gratitude for the scholarships and tell her about our accomplishments and future plans.” She added, “We were also able to come up with a few ideas to keep in touch and possibly start a mentoring program for new scholarship recipients.”
