Arlington, Va. – Marymount University and adidas have entered into a multi-year partnership beginning in academic year 2013-14. The deal will provide exclusive uniforms, footwear and apparel for select Saints programs. Charlottesville’s Downtown Athletic will service the partnership and provide support to MU’s Athletics Department.
“We’re extremely excited to partner with adidas,” Marymount Director of Athletics Debbie Warren notes. “As our Athletics Department continues to develop and expand, we will be able to streamline our look on and off the field, while also offering affordable Saints apparel to our fans and the campus community.” She also points out that adidas and Marymount are both members of the Fair Labor Association (FLA) and committed to protecting workers’ rights and safety in the manufacturing of apparel.
Rob Chalmers, Team Sales Representative at adidas, adds, “This is great partnership for the brand; we look forward to working with the coaches and the Saints athletes. After meeting with Debbie and members of the department, I felt this was a great fit and an opportunity to showcase the brands’ innovative offerings. We want to provide the best apparel and footwear for the school’s athletes, and the discounts that come with this partnership will help Marymount get more bang out of their budget. It’s a win for the brand as Marymount has a great program with so much potential within its conference, as well as nationally.”
With the addition of baseball and men’s volleyball in 2014, Marymount will sponsor 14 NCAA Division III programs during the 2013-14 season. The Saints also launch their men’s and women’s triathlon program this fall and are in the process of helping to push the sport to be included on the NCAA’s List of Emerging Sports for Women.
Marymount’s women’s athletics teams posted the third-best winning-percentage of all 27 non-NCAA Division I institutions in Virginia for the 2012-13 season in the annual Virginia Sports Information Directors All-Sports College Division Survey. The Saints won 66.8% of their contests on the women’s side throughout the year and placed 12th out of 28 teams, with a 52.1% combined winning-percentage for all men’s and women’s teams.
For the year, the Saints won their 12th Capital Athletic Conference women’s basketball title and reached the NCAA Tournament for the 17th time in program history, while the women’s volleyball team set a program record for victories with 26. The men’s lacrosse team posted its best season since 2001 and the men’s soccer squad reached the CAC postseason for the 20th time in 21 seasons. Marymount also boasted one All-American, one Academic All-American, two CAC Players of the Year, one CAC Coach of the Year, 20 All-CAC honorees, and 78 CAC All-Academic Team members.
adidas provides athletic apparel and uniforms to over 200 other NCAA schools including Notre Dame, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Kansas, Louisville, Indiana, and UCLA.
