Swimming Splits Final Regular Season Meet
Frostburg, Md. – Marymount University’s men’s and women’s swimming teams split their final Capital Athletic Conference double dual meet of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Saints men’s squad picked up their first win of the season with a 52-38 win over host Frostburg State while falling 77-17 to Mary Washington. The women’s team also defeated the Bobcats 59-35 and fell 78-16 to the Eagles.
Bridget Wunderly and Casey Thomas paced the Saints women’s squad with a pair of second place finishes. The pair joined Lauren Funk and Emily Wagner to place second in the 200 medley relay while Wunderly and Thomas were also runners-up in the 400 freestyle and 50 freestyle, respectively.
Kim Rizzo also posted a second place finish in the 800 freestyle.
Five Saints also medaled with third place finishes on the day. Wunderly was third in the 200 IM, Funk in the 100 backstroke, Katie Scott in the 200 freestyle, Angelina Goidas in the 100 butterfly and Taylor Hood in the 100 freestyle.
On the men’s side, Tom Baroz led the Blue and White with a pair of second place finishes in the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. Joseph Gardner added a second place showing in the 200 IM.
Dennis D’Abbraccio and Matt Ward claimed third place in a pair of events each. D’Abbraccio excelled in the distance freestyle events, medaling in the 800 freestyle and 400 freestyle. Ward was third in both the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
Marymount returns to action at the CAC Championships on Friday, February 15-17, hosted by St. Mary’s (Md.).
